Glenn and Cherie McBride trying to
support such a dream with their art
and music.
and music.

The couple says that they believe in
the power of "local' as in local
environment, local community, local
culture, local art, local music. "We
have some great history around here,"
says Cherie. "However, we also have
contemporary - immediate things to
protect, promote, nurture and even
grow. If everyone paves over their
home town and natural resources,
what will be left? "
That's why you'll see the McBride's
participating heavily in April's local
culture and wildlife events: Migration
Celebration, April 9 and 10; Artisans in
Nature (Bay City), April 2nd, Mad
Hatter Tea Party (Riverside), April 16,
Astronomy Day (Center for the Arts
and Sciences) April 16 and Artists in
Action (Palacios) April 30. The couple
will also be a part of this Fall's
Hummingbird Extravaganza at the
GCBO in Lake Jackson.
Cherie is getting ready with Gulf Coast
birds and scenes from local life while
Glenn works on this year's
hummingbird music album.

The Art League in Bay City and The
Outrigger in Palacios are joining forces
Saturday, April 30 to host an expanded
Artists in Action — a free event
allowing visitors to watch artists as they
work.

Artists in Action events have been held
at The Outrigger restaurant — owned
and operated by Wayne and Cheryl
Dodd — for more then a year.

The Art League in its quest to revitalize
its organization and involve more
members from across the county
decided it would benefit from joining
with The Outrigger in sponsoring the
art event.

Artists in Action will showcase the skills
of both visual and performing artists
from Matagorda County and
surrounding areas, said Art League
President Marguerite Bundick.

One such artist is Cherie Nowlin
McBride of YellowBird Studio in Lake
Jackson.

Much of McBride’s work is in the style
of Chinese brush painting.  “I love the
simplicity, the flowing strokes, the
movement and life,” said McBride.  “My
training as an illustrator comes through
in my brush paintings and
watercolors,” McBride added.  “My
work as a ceramist reflects that same
feeling,” said McBride. “I sculpt the
clay with emotions of ease,
gracefulness, charm and a bit of
whimsy.”

Artists in Action will be from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. at The Outrigger, 515
Commerce Street in Palacios.

Work from participating artists will be
available for sale following the event.
